Embarking on a prayer walk across a college campus is a meaningful experience. Students will eventually leave campus and fan out around the world, so this is a wonderful opportunity to have a far reach. Whether you’re new to prayer walks or have done them before, this guide will help you thoughtfully pray over the campus. Together, let’s discover how this simple practice can make a difference for students, faculty, staff, and the community as a whole.
Gather your group together at a convenient place on the edge of campus and offer an opening prayer such as this:
Holy God, as we begin this prayer walk across this campus, we come before you with open hearts and minds, seeking your presence in every step we take. We thank you for this place of learning, growth, and discovery, and we ask that you bless each person who calls this campus home. Guide our thoughts and prayers as we lift up the students, faculty, staff, and all who pass through here.
May this walk be a journey of connection with you and with one another. Help us see with your eyes, hear with your ears, and love with your heart. We pray for wisdom, protection, and peace to fill this campus, and that your Spirit would move powerfully in every classroom, dormitory, and gathering space.
As we walk, may your light shine brightly and may your love flow through us as we intercede for the needs of this community. We dedicate this time to you, trusting that you are at work in ways we cannot see. Amen.
Walk through the campus and pause at different locations for prayer. Depending on the layout of the campus, you might consider stopping near the library, student center, academic buildings, a dormitory, or as you feel led.

At each place you stop, choose one of these areas of prayer:
God’s guidance in studies
- Bible verse: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to God, and God will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
- Prayer prompt: Pray for wisdom and understanding in studies, asking God to guide academic pursuits and decisions.
Community and relationships
- Bible verse: A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity. (Proverbs 17:17)
- Prayer prompt: Lift up prayers for friendships, community life on campus, and unity.
Discipleship and faith development
- Bible verse: Let your roots grow down into God, and let your lives be built on God. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. (Colossians 2:7)
- Prayer prompt: Ask for God’s strength for students to live out faith amid academic challenges.
Justice and compassion
- Bible verse: Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow. (Isaiah 1:17)
- Prayer prompt: Pray for justice and compassion on campus and globally.
Peace and rest
- Bible verse: Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)
- Prayer prompt: Seek God’s peace and rest for students amid busy schedules and academic pressures.
Campus leadership
- Bible verse: Let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance. (Proverbs 1:5)
- Prayer prompt: Pray for administrators, faculty, and staff. Ask God to strengthen, encourage, and guide them in their work.
As your prayer walk on a college campus comes to an end, offer a closing prayer:
Gracious God, as we conclude this prayer walk, we thank you for guiding our steps and for the opportunity to intercede on behalf of this campus. We are grateful for your presence with us, for your hearing of our prayers, and for the work you are doing in the lives of everyone who learns, teaches, and serves here.
We trust that the seeds of prayer we have sown today will bear fruit in ways beyond our understanding. Continue to watch over this campus, filling it with your peace, wisdom, and protection. Strengthen the students as they pursue their studies, the faculty as they teach and mentor, and the staff as they support and care for the community.
As we leave this place, may we carry your love with us. Remind us to continue praying for this campus and to trust in your faithful care over every person and every need we’ve lifted up. Amen.

Thanks for the great ideas about doing a prayer walk on a college campus. My town doesn’t host a college campus, but there are plenty of opportunities for prayer walks around public school campuses. Thank you for the free pdf guide as well!
Thanks so much, Lisa! Praying for public schools is every bit as important.
