I love most hot drinks, and it just doesn’t get any cozier than homemade spiced cocoa. I tend to really dig a touch of cinnamon and ginger–they work as well for hot cocoa as they do for chai. (Another favorite!)
In a large bowl, stir together:
- 4 cups plain cocoa mix, any brand
- 1/2 cup plain dry creamer
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons dry ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Once everything is well incorporated, divide the mixture between two or three small containers. You’ll have some for your pantry and some for a friend.
This recipe makes a little more than would fit into two pint jars. It works well to fill one pint jar to use as a gift and keep the rest in an airtight container to enjoy at home.
If you’re giving some as a gift, here’s a gift tag you can use to provide instructions for the recipient:

Homemade spiced cocoa mix would make a wonderful addition to a care package any time of year. Check out my post on putting together a thoughtful care package for other ideas.
Homemade spiced cocoa mix would also be the basis for a delightful themed gift. Other items to consider including:
- fun mugs
- marshmallows
- sprinkles
- whipped cream
- peppermints
- cookies
- pumpkin bread
- pretzels
- popcorn
- slipper socks
- blanket or throw
- candle
I would love to receive something like this! It can be used and enjoyed, but then it doesn’t add to clutter around the house. It’s super easy to make, and yet it adds a personal touch to the gift.
Let me know if you try it!
