lovely hummingbird themed gift ideas

There’s something magical about hummingbirds. Their vibrant colors, quick movements, and delicate beauty make them a favorite among bird watchers and nature lovers alike. Whether you’re shopping for a birthday, a thank-you, or just a little surprise to brighten someone’s day, a hummingbird-themed gift offers a unique and thoughtful way to celebrate nature. In this post, I’ve rounded up a collection of charming ideas sure to bring joy to anyone who loves these tiny creatures. From homemade treats to fun accessories, there’s a little something for every hummingbird fan!

Themed gifts are versatile. You can include many items or just a few, making it easy to tailor to your budget. Please consider the following suggestions….

Homemade treats

Have you ever heard of hummingbird cake? It’s a special Southern cake filled with fruit, nuts, and spices. It’s often served as a layer cake or bundt cake, but it also works well as cupcakes, muffins, or in a loaf. Making something yourself gives a nice personal touch to a gift, so if at all possible consider including baked goods in your hummingbird-themed gift. If you do so, I suggest writing out the recipe for the recipient. It shows you’ve taken extra time with the gift, and it gives them an opportunity to check for potential allergens.

I found a recipe designed for using a bundt pan. If you choose this option, you might want to find a pretty cake plate to be part of the gift. I’ve found several fun ones at the dollar store. Alternatively, you could divide the batter between two loaf pans. Simply wrap the finished loaf in foil and tie a ribbon around it.

For a lighter version, try these hummingbird muffins. I made them using whole wheat flour, and they were delicious. Present them in a small basket with a cute kitchen towel (featuring hummingbirds, of course!) if you like.

Not into baking? Maybe you’d like to include a hummingbird cookie cutter in the gift. You could also add some cookie ingredients.

Paper goods

I found beautiful hummingbird notecards on etsy. There are also truly lovely notepads. These are useful gifts that are easy to tuck into a small bag or basket. You could add some fun pens or pencils. It would also be nice to include hummingbird plates and napkins, especially if you’re also giving baked goods.

Decorative art

There are numerous types of hummingbird glass art to choose from, such as suncatchers and ornaments. Lawrence Family Glassblowers in Nashville, Indiana has some beautiful hummingbird pieces. You can also find framed art featuring hummingbirds. I especially love the watercolors!

Accessories to help with a hummingbird garden

You might look into including a hummingbird feeder. There are several different varieties. Seed packets for flowers that attract hummingbirds would be another good idea. Trumpet vine, lupine, phlox, and coral bells are all possibilities. You could also look for books to include with tips and information about hummingbirds.

To round this out, let’s think about packaging.

The best way to package the hummingbird-themed gift depends on whether or not you’re including baked goods. I would use either a basket or a brown craft paper gift bag, but I bet there are beautiful gift bags featuring hummingbirds as well. It might be nice to write some fun hummingbird facts or quotes on the card:

Tiny marvels: fun facts about hummingbirds

  • Hummingbirds are the only birds that can fly backward and even upside down briefly!
  • Their wings beat up to 80 times per second, creating that signature hum.
  • They have an incredibly fast metabolism and need to eat every ten to fifteen minutes, visiting up to 2,000 flowers a day.

  • Despite their size, they’re bold. They will protect their territory!
  • Their hearts can beat more than 1,200 times per minute during flight.
