We’ve had a lot of fun experimenting with our Ninja Creami Deluxe, and we have an endless list of things we’d still like to try. It’s perfect for summer treats, but, admittedly, I’m sure we’ll be using it year-round. 🙂 My latest quest has been Ninja Creami sorbet recipes, and it has been a wonderfully fruity endeavor. If you’re trying to find healthier desserts with natural ingredients that still offer a sense of indulgence, then these ideas are perfect for you!

What is sorbet?

Sorbet is a fruity frozen dairy-free dessert. Juices, honey, and other sweeteners are typically incorporated. Sorbet has a clean, refreshing flavor that lets the fruit shine. It’s the kind of dessert that feels light and bright, perfect for a hot summer day or a simple, satisfying finish to a meal.

Sorbet is made with just a few ingredients and is surprisingly easy to customize. Whether you’re craving something tart and tangy or sweet and mellow, there’s a sorbet to match the mood. It’s a fun way to experiment with seasonal fruits, and it’s a great option for those who are dairy-free or just want something a little lighter than other desserts.

The basic approach to a Ninja Creami sorbet

Making a Ninja Creami sorbet is surprisingly easy and a lot of fun. You start with about two cups of fresh, frozen, or canned fruit or juice. Add your sweetener of choice, such as sugar, honey, agave, maple syrup, or simple syrup. (Perhaps a tablespoon. Try a taste test to see how it is.) Blend until it’s smooth. Strain out any seeds or chunks of peel or pulp. Put it in a Ninja Creami pint container and freeze for at least 24 hours, making sure it’s below the “fill” line and is setting level in your freezer.

When you’re ready to indulge, set it out for about fifteen minutes and then do a first spin using the sorbet setting. The machine shaves and whirls the frozen block into soft crumbles. At that point, add some liquid. I typically start with a tablespoon of juice or coconut water. Re-spin. You might want to add more liquid or sweetener and re-spin again. Adjust it until you’re happy with it. That’s all there is to it.

I’ll offer ten different flavor combinations below. I’ve enjoyed experimenting. 🙂 For a more in-depth discussion of sorbets, check out this article by Bread & Basil.

10 Ninja Creami sorbet flavor combinations

Remember: Start with blending the fruit and sweetener. If herbs are incorporated, blend those at the same time. Strain if necessary and then freeze for at least 24 hours. Set it out about fifteen minutes before spinning on the sorbet setting. Then add the liquid in small quantities. Re-spin. Repeat as needed.

1. Strawberry Lemonade Sorbet
Fresh strawberries, lemon juice (zest too!), and a little honey or simple syrup. Sweet and tangy.

2. Mango Lime Sorbet
Ripe mango chunks, lime juice (zest too!), and just enough agave or sugar to balance it out. It’s tropical, creamy (without the cream!), and refreshing.

3. Pineapple Coconut Sorbet
Pineapple, coconut water or light coconut milk, and a bit of maple syrup.

4. Raspberry Peach Sorbet
Raspberries and ripe peaches with simple syrup. This one has a gorgeous color and a lovely balance of flavors.

5. Blueberry Basil Sorbet
Blueberries blended with a few fresh basil leaves, lemon juice (zest too!), and honey. A little unexpected. Basil works well with strawberries too!

6. Cherry Limeade Sorbet
Frozen cherries, fresh lime juice (zest too!), and a touch of honey. Bold, bright, and perfect for fans of tangy-sweet flavors.

7. Cucumber Melon Sorbet
Cantaloupe, cucumber, lime juice (zest too!), and a drizzle of agave or honey. Extra hydrating and garden-fresh. Consider blending fresh mint with it!

8. Grapefruit Honey Sorbet
Fresh grapefruit with juice and honey. Tart and floral with a soft, elegant finish.

9. Blackberry Mint Sorbet
Blackberries blended with a few mint leaves, lemon juice (zest too!), and sweetener. Bold in flavor with a cooling touch. Strain the mixture before freezing if the seeds will bother you.

10. Watermelon Lime Sorbet
Juicy watermelon, lime juice (zest too!), and honey. Limeade, lemonade, or orange juice all work well with watermelon.

Tips for Ninja Creami sorbet success

Use ripe, flavorful fruit.
The better your fruit tastes going in, the better your sorbet will taste coming out. Ripe fruit adds natural sweetness and rich flavor.

Blend it smooth.
Before freezing, make sure your mixture is fully blended and free of chunks. A smooth base gives you the best texture after spinning. If in doubt, run it through a strainer.

Don’t skip the sweetener.
Even if your fruit is sweet, a little added sugar, honey, maple syrup, or agave improves the texture. It’s important to me not to load it up with sugar, so I don’t use much and don’t worry if it’s not quite as smooth.

Let it freeze a full 24 hours.
The base needs to be completely frozen for the Creami to work properly. Give it a full day in the freezer before spinning.

Re-spin if needed.
Add liquid in small quantitities and re-spin several times if needed.

Play with flavor boosters.
Try adding a squeeze of citrus, zest, a pinch of salt, or a few fresh herbs to brighten up the flavor. A little goes a long way.

Label your pints.
If you prep more than one sorbet base at a time, labeling the lids makes life easier later. Trust me.
