fudgy mug brownie

A single-serving fudgy mug brownie for whenever the craving hits. (Maybe not every time the craving hits!) This recipe is quick, easy, and comes together using ingredients you probably already have on hand.
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 1 minute
Total Time 6 minutes
Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp semi-sweet chocolate chips

Method

  1. In a microwave-safe mug, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt.
  2. Stir in the butter, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  3. Sprinkle in the chocolate chips.
  4. Microwave on high for one minute and check for doneness. If needed, mircrowave another 30 seconds.
  5. Let it cool--it will be hot! Top with vanilla ice cream if desired (or your favorite flavor) and enjoy.

Notes

I've written this recipe to suit my preferences, but there are a few things you could tweak if you're so inclined:
    • It's fine to use vegetable oil instead of melted butter.
    • You could also use water instead of milk.
    • If you're out of vanilla extract, you could omit it.
  •
    • Swap out the chocolate chips for some other type of baking chips, crushed candy bar pieces, or nuts if desired. Or skip them altogether.
